| Lollapalooza Day Two...(Live from Lollapalooza Update) |
[05 Aug 2007|01:45pm] |
So im sitting here in the Airconditioned AT+T tent posting on yesterday's happenings. I got to the festival around 12:30 and headed out to see Tokyo Police Club. They sounded good but perhaps being so young was the reason they seemed extreemely uncomfortable on such a big stage. Oh Well, good synth pop rock was enjoyed by all..
I ditched a little early so I could get a decent spot for Pete Yorn. It was a good set by him, and it seemed his fans turned out in droves to sing along. I'm not the biggest fan of Pete Yorn, but I did actually get to meet him, and no, I didnt ask him why he did that terrible Buzzcocks cover.
After that I saw a little bit of Silverchair and I'm choosing to blame the annoreixa for ruining his vocal chords and not the fact that he was drunk/high and was really forgetable.
I caught the last 20 or so minutes of Stephen Marley which was more of a big Bob Marley cover fest, but it was a good time. Perhaps he played his solo stuff earlier.
Rhymefest was up next and was killer Hip Hop with a full band. The Chicago Tribe, a breakdance crew, were in full effect at his show, so it was killer entertainment.
I left early to make sure I got to see The Roots up close. I made it to the front row for The Roots and they did not dissapoint. Whatever bar MIA set yesterday for a great hip hop show The Roots Destroyed it. Complete with a full horn section (including Susaphone) and guitars, bass, and of course Questlove? on drums it was fucking amazing. Props for the Van Halen and AC/DC guitar licks and for rapping over In Da Gadda Da Vida.
The roots were so insane I couldn't hear regina spektor very well because of the clatter of their fans, So I headed over to see The Hold Steady and wait for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The Hold Steady sounded good, and their fans turned out in droves to sing along and dance. One of the better crowd reactions of the day, the other two being The Roots and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
I headed out after 1/2 of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs set and went over to see who I'd been wating all day to see, PATTI SMITH!!!!! She was fucking on. A set with Gloria, Rock and Roll Nigger, and her cover of Are you Expierenced? was amazing. Seeing her flash the crowd was just icing on the cake. Add in getting to talk to her original guitarist for like 5 minutes and it was perfect.
I watched Muse and Interpol and was not really impressed by either. Interpol was too gloomy and sad, and after having such a good fun time, I was not in the mood.
I'm off to watch Lupe Fiasco, and start the final day of Lollapalooza. Updates will most likely come tomorrow night. 3 hours till the fucking Stooges!!!!!

[04 Aug 2007|11:12am] |
Chicago Day Two.. I started off the day sweaty and gross as I woke up on a half broken spaceship bed in a room with 5 other foreign dudes. I got up and got changed and after a call from Jen, and a quick breakfast stop at McDonalds (ugh) I headed to the HI. I got to the HI easily (proving the previous day's curse was over) and after what felt like the worlds best shower I headed to Subway with Jen and bought her lunch for letting me stay at the HI (thanks again!!!) for free. After lunch it was Lollapalooza. My first impressions were that It was fucking massive and bigger than any festival I had ever been to. I headed over to see Ted Leo who was just walking on stage. He killed it with a run through some old classics, and it was almost like he personally asked me what 4 songs to play off the new album.

After Ted Leo I checked out the merch tent and bought a Daft Punk (TRON) shirt I headed over to see the Polyphonic Spree. The best way to describe them Is if Bright Eyes and The Flaming Lips were trying to cover each others songs. They played a Nirvana cover, I'll be posting a clip shortly, but it seemed awkard to me, but you can judge for yourself.
After that display, I took in the sounds of The Electric Six, a band who I have enjoyed a number of times in the past. They played the hits, and described pollitical plans than involved a giant microwave in the sears tower, beautiful women, and sex with a 91 year old George W. Bush. Killer Dudes, Killer Pollitics.

After some water it was time for M.I.A. who despite claims that she was loosing her voice, and a spray Fed Ex'd to her from Jack White, she sounded fucking great. Easily the best Hip Hop show I've ever seen, hands down. After a High Five from MIA, and her attempts to climb the scaffolding of Lollapalooza (pic's inclosed)

After MIA I caught the last bit of the Silversun Pickups, and they played the song of theirs I like, and it ruled, despite my sister saying it sucks (eat a dick). From Silversun Pickups I decided to skip The Black Keys in favor of Sattalite Party (or "the best of Perry Ferell band) which were supprsingly decent, most likely because they only played 3 of their own songs. Hightlights were Porno For Pyros original guitarist joining the band for some songs and The Janes Addiction cover "coming down the mountan".

I could hear Femi Kuti in the distance but the call of Daft Punk was to strong. I worked my way to the very front row right against the rail and waited 1 hour for Daft Punk to come on. A large curtain was drawn to hide the construction of the Pyramid. All I really have to say about Daft Punk is they left my mouth hanging open most of the set. They were just that damn good. The stage show is the best i've ever seen, and probablly will ever see. Oh, and Daft Punk are offically TRON.
I guess thats what happened to Super Hacker Flyn. I love robots.

PS. I forgot when I wrote this to write about Blonde Redhead. I guess that says alot for what I thought of them. They were ok I guess....not super, defintately not TRON material.

| Chicago Day One (the travel day) |
[04 Aug 2007|11:01am] |
The first day of my Chicago trip shall now forth be referred to as the cursed day. It started out with Jen's flight in from LA getting missed so I found out at 1am Thursday morning that I had no place to stay for the first night. Luckily I got the last bed at the Arlington house hostel and was able to make a reservation just for the one night. Fast forward to the bus ride; the 9 hour bus ride that was supposed to take 6. Due to some ridiculous traffic (we spent 2.5 hours not really moving at all) we did not arrive in Indianapolis until 40min before we were supposed to be in Chicago. I ended up not getting to Union Station until about 8:10. I made it to the hostel and got check in and things were going smooth. I was on my way to go to Kummas, a metal themed restraunt in the Belmont area. On the way there I ended up sitting next to a Juggalo, a guy drawing psychedelic art with a book bag full of knives, and getting followed for an entire block by some homeless guys. Once there I met up with the new and improved short hair Brian Ostrander. I ate the Mastodon Burger (1/4lb Angus Burger with Cheddar Cheese, Bacon, Frizzled Onions, and BBQ Sauce) and good times were had by all. I got off at Belmont and went to Denesis House of Fun (a weird arcade) and then saw the drummer from Pearl Jam (who had just played a show at the Vic) on the corner and our conversation went like this: ME: Yo, What up. HIM: Hi ME: Your the drummer in Pearl Jam right? HIM: Yea. ME: Tight. Take it easy. HIM: Bye.
Weird Stuff. Tomorrow's blog comes with much more photos and music summaries. Peace out.

Dear Stephen Spielberg, I recentely saw a movie that you co-produced alongside Michael Bay called "Transformers". It seems to me that you have forgotten what you strong point is in filmaking, a point you could have easily incorporated. See a while back you made a movie featuring this:
now when I saw transformers this is what I saw that most closely resembled a dinosaur:
Thats right. Despite all the action I actually managed to engage my brain and start counting the product placements: From Nerf, to Nokia (not japanease, Austrian or some shit), to mountain dew, to xbox 360, to some pontiac, to apple computers, to the misfits (and I know you just gave them a freebie, they have to have like no money left). I mean seriously in the script there was a character called XBOX 360 guy. Let me break down how this happened: XBOX: Yea, we'll lisence a transformers video game, but we want our product, in a box, carried like a pizza box, shown next to mountain dew, our studies show that gamer kids like that. STUDIO: But the movies done.... XBOX: you need a action break right, just think of it as a commercial in the movie. STUDIO: WOW, you think in a 2 hour movie we could do that a million timeS? XBOX: Sure, who the hell cares.
OK seriously let me help you out with the sequel if you decide to stay in it Spielberg. This
 Plus this
 Equals this:
oh look, holy fuck, a dinosaur transformer. A billion dollars, and hell why not just have dinotransformers fight dinosaurs on the jurassic park island, man, eh beast, versus robot, its the story of technology influincing our world. It's brilliant. And for you Michael Bay, why your still alive after this:
im not sure, I would have fallen on my sword.
PS: IF YOU FUCK UP THE FRIDAY THE 13TH MOVIE YOUR THINKING ABOUT MAKING MICHAEL BAY, I WILL FUCKING END YOU.

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Rev. Jerry Falwell, the television evangelist who founded the Moral Majority and used it to mold the religious right into a political force, died Tuesday shortly after being found unconscious in his office at Liberty University. He was 73.
I can only hope that this does not jeopardize Kylie's scholarship. Peace Out.

So for those of you who didn't know my computer gersploded. RIP ibook G3, I hadn't named you yet, but I'll bury you in the houses and computers of the highest bidders on e-bay. Welcome to my family this beast:

UPDATE: Ummm, Im posting from my computer the gersploded.....So it Gersploded in the terms that it may or may not work on a regular basis and not be super reliable. Hopefully it will work for the time being and I can sell it (possibly to pygmalism for what I have in it). It never fails that when you buy something new to replace the thing that broke that the old thing starts to work again.
